James heads up the busy residential, day service, respite, preschool and elderly care services of St. Aidan's Services in Gorey, Wexford.

"The College’s flexibility and support enabled me to complete my course. The fundamentals I learned at the OTC have remained integral to my practice throughout this time. I highly recommend the College to anyone considering a career in this sector."

I am married 26 years and I have 3 boys. The older boys were very younger when I was at the OTC, so I had to constantly juggle work, kids and college studies. The flexibility of the OTC learning model, however, made it possible. My work life balance was greatly affected but I knew what I wanted to achieve and I was determined to achieve my goal.

Graduate Spotlight

Studying with the OTC was key in supporting my career development, with courses that enriched my knowledge and provided me with the language and skills for my social care career journey. The OTC was flexible and supportive, with a range of courses to support my learning. I was able to learn online in a flexible way and at a pace that suited my life and work commitments, which made the journey achievable. The doors it opened allowed me to grow into new roles, taking on greater responsibility and progressing through several areas and layers of management within Brothers of Charity Southern Services—now Corlann.

Today, as a Sector Manager, I’m directly involved in shaping and developing social care services. That journey began with OTC—and it can begin there for others too.”
